J.D. Salinger Dead at 91

Filed under : In Other News

SalingerTimeJ.D. Salinger, the author who brought Holden Caulfield to life in the timeless novel The Catcher In The Rye, has died at the age of 91.

While Salinger isn’t the typical figure we usually cover here on PopAwesome, we felt that it was only fitting since the work he is best known for is a must read for teens ( well, all people really.) Whether required reading at school, or a recreational read, The Cather In The Rye’s themes of rebellion and alienation have spoken to people for nearly 60 years (the book was originally published in 1951.)

Since the novel’s release in 1951 it has been translated into nearly all the world’s languages and has amassed over 65 million sales. The book also gave us a number of memorable, and completely spot-on quotes, and instead of leaving you with something deep instead we’ll leave you with this lovely from The Catcher In The Rye, “All morons hate it when you call them a moron.”

RIP J.D. Salinger
