LMFAO – Party Rock

LMFAO, aka Redfoo and Sky Blu, have been high profile remixers on the L.A. scene for a while.  The duo recently dropped their debut album Party Rock which offers the same pleasures as their past work with 80s-inspired beats, instantly catchy synth hooks and ever-so-popular catchphrases like “I’m In Miami Trick.”

LMFAO may be part of the trendy dance scene (anyone catch their cameo on MTV’s Real World?), but they don’t take themselves too seriously and can’t help but make people laugh.  There is no doubt that LMFAO have shown fans how to party in 2009. Before their debut fifteen track album, LMFAO were well known for their remixes of famous songs from acts such as Katy Perry, Kanye West, and Fergie.  Adding original material to their album, LMFAO have maintained the same appeal that fans enjoy.  On Party Rock, there is no shortage of great beats and fun vocals that will get you on your feet.

The duo also brought Lil’ Jon on board for their debut album. The song “Shots” showcases that mainstream hip-hop and dance flavor that Lil’ Jon has trademarked over the years. This song is the most catchy and overall most powerful song on the record. Throughout the chorus there are vocals shouting “shots, shots, shots” repeatedly. This is the track that is likely to grab people’s attention and make them wonder where LMFAO are going on their next album.

Party Rock is a fun album – no doubt about it. Their style is almost like a union between Kanye West and Katy Perry. In addition to the fifteen original tracks, LMFAO released a special edition of Party Rock with a second disc filled with seventeen new remixes reflecting their original sound. The remixes are sometimes even more enjoyable than their original songs. Unlike most remixes out there, LMFAO use the basic beat but totally change the rest of the song’s structure.  The vocals are also entirely revamped throughout.  Is this the direction that LMFAO will continue to move towards?
